WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?
Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years within Traditional Chinese Medicine. In modern clinical practice, its effects can also be understood through neurophysiology.
When specific points are stimulated, acupuncture influences the nervous system at multiple levels. Locally, it improves circulation and tissue perfusion. At the spinal level, it helps modulate pain signaling. In the brain, it can stimulate the release of endogenous opioids and other neurochemicals that regulate inflammation and the perception of pain.
This dual framework — traditional and modern — informs how treatment is applied at Kawartha Holistic.
HOW CAN IT HELP ME?
At Kawartha Holistic, acupuncture is used to support complex and persistent pain using a neuromuscular and orthopedic approach. Rather than addressing symptoms in isolation, treatment considers how the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and musculoskeletal system interact.
BELOW ARE SOME AREAS OF CLINICAL FOCUS
Chronic neck, shoulder, hip, and low back pain
Frozen shoulder and rotator cuff injuries
Knee pain and hip pain
Carpal tunnel and repetitive strain injuries
Sciatica and radicular nerve pain
Peripheral neuropathy and neuralgia
Nerve entrapment syndromes
Headaches and migraines
TMJ and jaw tension
WOMEN’S HEALTH AND FERTILITY
Acupuncture is also used to support women’s hormonal health and fertility.
Care is offered across the following areas:
∙ Painful or irregular periods
∙ PMS and cycle-related symptoms
∙ Perimenopause and menopause
∙ Fertility, IVF & preconception
Acupuncture may support reproductive health by influencing the nervous system’s regulation of hormonal function, improving circulation to the uterus and ovaries, and modulating the stress response — all of which play a role in cycle health and fertility.

Cupping Therapy
Cupping is a traditional therapy used to help relieve muscle tension, improve circulation, and support recovery in areas of pain or tightness.
During treatment, small cups are placed on the skin to create gentle suction. This lifts the underlying tissue slightly, increasing blood flow to the area and helping release tight muscles and fascia. Many patients find cupping especially helpful for stubborn tension in the back, shoulders, hips, and legs.
CUPPING MAY SUPPORT
• Relief from muscle tightness and soreness
• Improved circulation to overworked or irritated tissue
• Greater ease of movement and flexibility
• Recovery after physical strain or repetitive work
Cupping is a needle-free treatment option. Temporary marks may appear where the cups are placed; these are painless and typically fade within a few days.
This treatment is well suited for people looking for a hands-on, needle-free approach to relieving muscle tension and supporting recovery.
